The Author

Forty years of navigation before the first page.

Nate Eckler holds a USCG Master's license and has spent forty years navigating the coastal United States — the Pacific Coast, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Atlantic seaboard — as a licensed captain, delivery skipper, and marine surveyor.

He commanded a youth training ship, the former USCG Cutter Morris, which is a particular kind of job: you are responsible for the vessel and for a deck full of teenagers who have never stood a watch, and the sea does not grade on effort. He has moved boats through hurricane season, sat across the table from buyers who were lying, and learned the parts of the maritime trade that never make the brochure.

He writes about that world because the real version is stranger, quieter, and more consequential than the version in most thrillers. The procedure is accurate. The paperwork is accurate. The weather is accurate. What happens in between is invented.

The books are set on the Gulf Coast, where he lives.
